Problem solving teaching strategies
Here are links to different strategies to teach problem solving in your classroom! Please click!
Strategy 1: Using word problems students are given a record sheet in which there are areas to draw the problem and try and solve it independently. They are given 4 minutes to do so. Then students compare their answers to see what is good and bad. Students help one another figure out the correct answer. The teacher monitors the room walking around and helping when needed. Students go to the front of the room and explain how they got their answers. Consultation and collaboration are a huge part in this lesson and in life and this is why we teach activities this way. Strategy 2: This strategy looks into how to solve a problem using 5 steps. These steps are define the problem, think about it, plan a solution, carry out the plan, and look back. These steps are very helpful with using mnemonics.
